How much would it cost for a 2 month backpacking trip through Europe for two guys, we have no problem staying in hostels and can sleep on trains if neccisary, I just need a ballpark figure

My husband and I are thinking of taking the Eurail or similar across the continent, but we are unsure of the logistics. It is very confusing. If you buy the Eurail pass, do you sleep on the train every night? Can anyone tell me how they backpacked across Europe, logistically?

I will eat about one big meal a day and then some small ones, stay in youth hostils, and ride the train.
